Hello and welcome to Day 3 of Week 3 of RESET!
Yesterday you saved a collection of posts that you felt drawn to into a library of inspiration.
Today we’re going to explore how you might use those posts as a starting point for your own content.
Some of you might be worrying that this is copying other creators, writers or authors so, before we begin, I’d like to offer you some different ways of looking at the relationship between what you consume and what you create:
Trends, by definition, come to life when multiple people take a creative format and put their own spin on it. This kind of behaviour is not just accepted, it is rewarded on Instagram.
What you are not going to do is take someone’s exact wording and use it for yourself. Instead, you’re going to take a hook and complete it in your own way, or a topic and bring your own perspective to it.
Where known, what you can do is credit the originator of the idea in your caption. Add a line that says ‘inspired by ___’ and tag them.
When you think of your book, is it the first book ever written in your genre, or about your area of expertise? Probably not. Hopefully you can see that because you’re telling the story, or presenting the facts, in your inimitable way you are not copying! In many cases, the same is true of Instagram posts! It is your perspective and voice that transforms an idea into something unique to you.
When you know how to scroll with intention and purpose, and you know how to bring your own perspectives to the inspiration you find on Instagram, this will re-energise your approach to content creation, and help you step out of the rut you might feel stuck in.
