📽 Why should you use Reels for growth?
If you’d like to understand why Reels are one of - if not the - most important content format for growth, take a look at this essay where I go into it in more detail:
In this essay though I will concentrate on one particular kind of Reel that will feature heavily in your Growth Sprint content: B-ROLL REELS.
There are other formats of Reels (e.g talk to camera, story-telling with voiceover) but for the purpose of this training I want to focus on how to create B ROLL Reels as they’re a versatile type of Reel that can be used in combination with your ANCHOR messaging, as well as for SHAREABLE content.
What are B-Roll Reels?
B-roll Reels are videos where you may, or may not, be in shot, but what you’re doing doesn’t add anything to the content of the post.
I like to think of b-roll video as the plate that you’re serving the food on whereas the food is your idea.
B-roll reels can be one long video that’s played in ‘real’ time or can be sped up. It can also be multiple clips joined together.
B-roll videos are usually combined with text laid over the top of the video + music. This is the kind of Reel I’m going to concentrate on today, but this kind of video can also be combined with a voiceover + captions.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
In this training about Reels I’m going to refer you to your ideas for Anchor Content so if you haven’t yet complete the Week 1 training, I recommend starting there:
How many times should you post Reels during the Growth Sprint?
According to Instagram, the accounts that see the fastest growth are those that post at least 10 Reels per month so I’m going to suggest you should plan to post at least two, ideally three, Reels per week during the Growth Sprint. In total this looks like 8-12 reels over a month.
As I’ve said before, however, this is an ideal level of posting and in the planning session on Thursday 6th March we can talk about how achievable this is for you, and what alternatives you might have.
