I know my ideal reader, but write in series and each one is different although within the same genre. Also, I rapid release. So, I wonder how content pillars would apply with ever-changing themes and tropes.
This is a great question! I think because you’re a romance author, and that comes with certain expectations from your reader, you shouldn’t get too niche about your content pillars. For example, instead of getting hung up on individual tropes and themes of your books, you could post about different tropes, asking your audience’s opinions, or giving your own. Or you could think about what brings people to reading romance in the first place. Is there content you could create that will speak to their real-world experiences? Basically, you could create content that invites people into conversation about romance, rather than each individual book (I always advise that posts that look like ads about each individual book should only be 20-25% of your posts).
Thanks for that, but that's what a gazillion of romance authors are doing on IG. And my target audience - early GenX - doesn't like to "talk". Tried & failed hard during the last 2 years. 😅
I'm sorry to hear that - it's so frustrating when things aren't working! I've just had a quick look at your account, but before I go on I want to check, do you want to hear my unvarnished opinion or do you want to vent? The latter is fine!
Thanks again. I know that my account is a mess, because I let it slide for far too long and it is in dire need of a proper strategy. So, sure, fire away.
Not a mess at all! But what I would say is that when I scroll through your posts since the beginning of July, there are only 6 posts when I would say you have centred what your readers might be interested in. All other posts are asking them to do something that benefits you, without really making it clear why it will benefit them. If you feel like you know your ideal reader, the next step is to identify topics you can have a conversation with them about and create posts around them, rather than around your actual books/ writing. This is how you can nurture people towards becoming your readers. I hope that helps!
Really looking forward to the Define workshop! My book is yet to be completed but am excited by the idea of setting a good foundation for it.
Wahoo!! I’m excited to get you started Dominique!
