A conversation with rom-com author, Hayley Dunlop, about failure, feeling 'silly', redefining success, the power of co-writing, and 'special interest'-informed marketing
Really interesting conversation thank you. As someone who has been working on my novel for 6 years (next week), it was a good reminder of how l-o-n-g this whole process can be. Also I pitched too soon and have taken a step back to do some more in-depth editing. I'm finding the editing course with Sara Cox of the Cheshire Novel Prize brilliant.
gosh so long - and it feels even longer when non-writer friends ask how it's going 😆 ditto with the in-depth editing - I have no shame about admitting I didn't / don't know what I'm doing but I'm hoping all the learning will stand me in good stead when I start a new project (soon 🤞🏼)
I've already decided that if (when!) I get an agent I will tell no-one, as then it will be 'is your book published yet?' every 2 minutes. As we know, there's no guarantee of that either. I feel the more I learn, the more I realise I have no idea what I'm doing 😆

😆 the main problem seems to me to be a classic: we don’t know what we don’t know until we know 😉
