Welcome to TooMuch!
So-called because my clients - writers - often tell me the demands of social media are âtoo muchâ on top of everything else youâre responsible for.
The good news is, youâre right (we all like being right, right?).
The bad news is, if you want people to read your writing, social media remains one of the best ways to get it in front of their eyeballs and into their hands.
This is why Iâve combined my seven years of experience in social media marketing, my twelve years experience of teaching, and my lifelong love of books and reading, to create services and products that support writers in using Instagram to market your work in ways that build your confidence, develop your skills and respect your creative energy.
Whatâs in it for you?!

More about me
Hi, Iâm Nicola!
I live in South London with my husband, two children and a socially-awkward whippet.
I became a Social Media Manager in 2017 after a twelve-year-long career as a secondary-school English teacher. I retrained, set up shop, and worked freelance with a range of small business clients, many of them female- founded, helping them get noticed online.
At the start of 2023 I started working with writers and authors, teaching them how to harness the power of social media to share their work as widely as possible. I LOVE working with writers - the thoughtfulness! the creativity! the eloquence!<chefâs kiss>.
Although this is a new area of business for me, itâs a very old area of interest. Like all the best (ex)English teachers, Iâve been an avid reader since I was a child and in the last three years Iâve been working on my own fiction project. Iâm currently querying agents and âenjoyingâ (ahem) the roller-coaster of that experience.
The power of social media to bring together like-minded people is undeniable and my approach to Instagram has always been community-first. I will die on the hill that writers should not be trying to make sales on Instagram; your job is to make connections.
This is what people whoâve worked with me say:
âFor years social media has made me very nervous. Posting always felt somehow both unnatural and exposing. Your class helped me finally internalise that, really, social media is just a tool. Somehow that mindset make the whole things feel so much less charged.â Cate Crawford, The Chronic Gardener
âThank you for giving such a brilliant workshop today, I took so much away and am brimming with ideas for how to connect with readers and talk about my book. I've been to a fair few industry sessions and have a background in corporate communications and can honestly say your workshop was something entirely new - a lightbulb moment.â Rachel Blackmore, The Write Era, Costanza, out in Aug 2024.
âI feel genuinely excited about Instagram again for the first time in years!â Eloise Rickman, Small Places
âThis is transformative because I was on the verge of giving up on social media altogether.â Ilona Bannister, author of âWhen I Ran Awayâ and âLittle Prisonsâ
Iâm much more confident now in my ability to promote myself and engage my growing audience.â Caro Giles, Unschooled, author of âTwelve Moonsâ
âI knew when I signed up for Instagram School for Writers I had struck gold! This was verified through Nicolaâs relaxed and structured style of tutoring, helping me learn quickly and effectively. This has given me the confidence to use Instagram to promote my ideas and writing.â Sarah Knowles, writer and artist
