Hello weary writer, tired of chasing the Instagram algorithms, and shouting into the void.
Breathe easy, Iâve got you⌠Welcome to Too Much â¤ď¸
So-called because writers and authors often tell me the demands of Instagram are âtoo muchâ on top of everything else youâre responsible for.
The good news is, I can help you with that.
Hi, Iâm Nicola,
And this is not your typical approach to Instagram.
This is the antidote to influencer-culture and bro-marketing tactics that have sucked the connection and creativity out of using Instagram, and that ignore the needs of writers and authors.
Iâm here to help you feel better about using Instagram.
Iâm here to lift you out of decision fatigue, overwhelm, and that ever-present feeling that youâre just not doing it right.
Iâm here to help you kickstart your platform building, plan for a book launch, or keep things going once your book is out in the world.
The best way for me to help you here on Substack is for you to upgrade your subscription to become a member of Too Much Instagram where youâll benefit from:
a weekly group chat to exchange post ideas and get advice from me and the community
fortnightly content creation sessions for body-doubling and accountability
monthly deep dive Ask Me Anything advice clinics where you can access my Instagram-brain (replays available)
regular banks of post ideas to keep your posting momentum up
other resources to develop your skills, such as the Reel-y Simple Reels series, or the Growth Sprint
To become a member today, upgrade your subscription đđź
If youâre not ready to take the plunge then youâre welcome to take advantage of the free resources I publish here on Substack every month:
đĄ a monthly round-up of book marketing advice plus a selection of post formats to try - this is Julyâs edition
đ free gifts like the WAKE UP INSTAGRAM challenge and the FAQ series
đ§ episodes of the Too Much Social podcast straight to your inbox - more episodes are coming in the autumn
đ my musings on book marketing (like this piece đđź) and life online more broadly
This is what subscribers to TMI have told me about why they joined:
PS. Iâm on Instagram too (obvs ;-)!
More about me
Hi, Iâm Nicola!
I live in South London with my husband, two children and dog, although Stoke-on-Trent, where I grew up will always be âhomeâ.
I became a Social Media Manager in 2017 after a twelve-year-long career as a secondary-school English teacher. I retrained, set up shop, and started to work with small business clients, helping them get noticed online.
After 7 years of working with small businesses, in 2023, I took the decision to start supporting writers, authors and other word-lovers with your use of Instagram to find more readers.
By doing so, I get to combine my professional expertise and experience, with my first loves of books and writing.
Iâve been an avid reader since I was a child and Iâve been working on my own fiction projects since 2020. Iâm currently querying agents and âenjoyingâ the roller-coaster of that experience.
I know that for many writers, Instagram can sometimes feel âToo Muchâ. Iâm making it my mission to tackle the overwhelm and anxiety many of you feel so you can make the most of the opportunities Instagram offers, without it feeling horrible or burning out.

What people whoâve worked with me say:
âThank you for giving such a brilliant workshop today. I've been to a fair few industry sessions and have a background in corporate communications and can honestly say your workshop was something entirely new - a lightbulb moment.â Rachel Blackmore, The Write Era, author of âCostanzaâ
âI feel genuinely excited about Instagram again for the first time in years!â Eloise Rickman, Small Places
âThis is transformative because I was on the verge of giving up on social media altogether.â Ilona Bannister, author of âWhen I Ran Awayâ and âLittle Prisonsâ
Iâm much more confident now in my ability to promote myself and engage my growing audience.â Caro Giles, Unschooled, author of âTwelve Moonsâ
